We had a blast!100 members of the Grafton Land Trust along with their guests joined together on Friday evening for the 52nd Annual Meeting and Dinner at Highfields Golf and Country Club. In addition to a delicious buffet dinner, all enjoyed a Silent Auction, a Table Raffle, and a presentation by guest speaker, Bruce deGraaf, a local bird enthusiast and photographer. GLT President Ken Holberger noted the accomplishments of the GLT over the past three years which included acquiring the property of the former Brigham Hill Estates, building new trails to add to the already extensive network of current trails, launching the new website (check it out if you haven’t seen it: www.graftonland.org), and sponsoring many great public activities. Barbara Fontecchio announced the 2010 GLT Education Grant winners and new Board Members Ann Morgan, Carol Dauphinais, and Rob Winchell were welcomed after saying farewell and thank you to three wonderful retiring Board Members - Jeanne Johnson, Pat Methot, and Keith Regan. Special recognition was given to Jeanne Johnson for her decade of service to the GLT as a board member and notably as Secretary for most of that time. Ken Holberger presented Jeanne with a “Director and Secretary Emeritus” award for her longtime service and dedication to the Grafton Land Trust. Joe Tancrell, a past GLT President, spoke of the years Jeanne invested and the efforts she put forth for the cause of land preservation and environmental education, including her devotion to the Hassanamesit Woods Project. Joe presented Jeanne with a caricature drawing of her sitting with her computer at a desk in the forest with her binoculars, poised for viewing any bird that perched nearby, and a shovel, handy for the next Hassanamesit Archaeological dig. The evening ended with drawings for the Raffle Table, door prize and, the eagerly anticipated Kayak Raffle. Thank you to the following for your donations to the silent auction: Steve Lemoine, Steve Libuda, Ken Holberger, Mark and Helen Blazis, Mary Dennis Photography and Sterling Frames, Highfields, Grafton Credit Union, Denise Lemoine of Windy Hill Creations, Tom Onacki, Pat Methot, Fore Seasons Mini Golf, Ridge Valley Stables, Allison Picone Fine Artist, Kim Lipinski of Kimimela Jewelry, Spirit of Wellness, Pecorinos, Defense Wise Fitness, Great Canadian Canoe and Kayak Co., Mapel Nursery, Grafton Garden Club, Blackstone Valley Soaps, Fin and Feather, and George and Alberta Durfee.
